Confession: I am a bit of a masochist when it comes to hair removal. I’ve never been hairy, hairy but I am a daughter of a woman with absolutely no arm and leg hair (ugh). I’m also about 3-4 shades darker than my mom so just imagine how “dirty” I feel like whenevs were’re seated next to each other during summer (read: in shorts and tanks).

I think my fuzz-free obsession started way back soph year high when I learned how to tweeze my eyebrows. Oh yes. That’s also the time Gwen Stefani’s so big I even managed to make my brows look like hers (read: non-existent). After waiting for like forever for my eyebrows to grow back, I swore I’ll keep off my eyebrows and focus on other areas instead. LOL I never liked shaving my legs because I’m clumsy. I tried it once and I think I’m all too concerned of cutting my legs that I actually cut it (doh!). Ahhhh then I learned how to wax.

DIY hot waxing, while inexpensive (almost about Php200 for a big Epilin pan) and usually effective, if done incorrectly won’t just burn your skin but can also make one big, ugly mess. I learned it the hard way when I dripped over my carpet (doh! x2). This accident in turn introduced me to waxing and sugaring strips.

Ahhhh. This baby IMHO, is the best invention ever next to the MAC 222. They’re so easy to use (just warm up the strip between your hands by rubbing ‘em vigorously for a few seconds, split the sheets, press on area to be waxed, and pull off against the hair growth direction in one swift move), neat, convenient, and economical (a box of 10 strips cost me a little over Php700 and that’s way cheaper than getting a wax job at reputable salons).

Here’s how a single strip looks like:

A single strip vs. a NARS blush

The OC babe in me pre-cut two whole strips into this size for upper lip waxing:

Best part?

You can use both sides!

I’ve just tried it this morning on my upper lips and it’s perfect. It didn’t hurt like a b!+c# like hot wax or threading but got all my facial hair in one go. Sweeeet!

The Swiper’s verdict: definitely a must have.

I tried waxing for the first time yesterday with a sugar-formulated wax and it hurt. Weird part is, my right leg stung more than the left. Maybe I should try your suggestion.

I like your website’s makeover.

I’m quite hairy, and I’ve tried a lot of different types of hair removal methods. Although waxing is a little more time consuming, I like it over shaving. But my wax strips have been collecting dust since I switched to my trusty epilator for my legs!

But I should try those Body Shop wax strips for my upper lip. Can you believe that I pluck mine?!? And it looks weird at times because they don’t all grow at the same time! =P Lol!

I can totally relate regarding your mom. I’ve no idea why she has almost no-hair on her arms, legs! So much for genes I suppose.

I’ve never tried waxing in my life. For some reason I have an aversion towards it. o.O

I’ve tried shaving, waxing but have stuck to epilating the past 3-4 years. I love my Emjoi, lesser hair growth on legs, very little pain (or none) and I use it once every 2-3 weeks only.
I’m hairy too (but not too much like you)) and now I’m undergoing IPL for underarms for hair free UA forever.

@Sophie
*makes a mental post-it to bring you a strip next week*

@Joan
You might want to try popping Mefenamic Acid (hoping you’re not allergic) an hour before waxing. It helps. ;)

Thanks for the template love!

@anna
What (epilator) brand are you using? Am thinking of getting one for Christmas! :mrgreen:

@gn.
IKR. Mother Goose has beautiful genes I sadly didn’t get. :P

@Nikki
How’s your IPL treatment so far? Does it hurt, hurt?

@jayvee f.

Doesn’t hurt one bit coz they put ice on the area to numb it first. I had my 2nd session and it’s been 1 month now with very little to no regrowth that’s why my sessions are getting farther apart. Next one is is 1.5 months after the 2nd.

I have three: Philips, Panasonic and Braun. I like my Braun the best. It pulls the hair so much better than the other two. =)
