Okay now for the highlight of my night!
Good friends know very well how much of an electronica junkie I am. I’ve always been interested in making my own music but I never met my perfect instrument until I tried on this Pioneer mixer at Club V two years ago. I am very blessed to be mentored by two of the country’s most influential DJs Boyet Sison and Mon Maramba (who’s already spinning in CA). I never went pro because really, I’d rather sleep at night than party.
Whenever am out for a gig though, I’m always asked who’re my fave electronica artists. I can always add a couple of new artists but Chicane, Zero 7, Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, Groove Armada never left my list. Out of those favorites, Chicane’s the only band (yes, they’re a band and not just 1 DJ) I’ve been fortunate to see thrice (last night was the third time).
Thanks to Nokia, I got to hang out with Chicane (!!!!!) pre-gig!

Backstage, I had two options:
- Totally geek out and ask Nick Bracegirdle (guy holding the mic) for mixing tips.
- Shut up, grin, and just enjoy being in the same room with them.
After making a complete fool of myself greeting someone (also in WTC) who I thought were my friends (rrrrr sinabi ng mag-contacts kasi eh!), I thought option 2 was the better choice. I was already happy with my Red Bull when Natasha’s (Brocklebanks, female vocals of Chicane) eye makeup caught my eye. I was like WTH…
Phoebe: Natasha, I just have to say this. Your eye makeup is GORGEOUS.
Natasha: Thanks! I’d take that as a huge complement because I just did it on myself so quickly.
Phoebe: (palpitating…sorry HUGE fan) Might I ask what brand and shade that is exactly?
Natasha: Oh it’s by Ruby and Millie. I’m not sure if you have that here in the Philippines. Does it ring a bell?
Phoebe: (eyes super wide) OH YES. But we don’t have that here. I just got a small palette from a friend based in UK a few years back. Is that your favorite makeup brand?
Natasha: MAC tops my list!
Phoebe: Me too! Just very recently though, I’ve added this new brand on my fave list, ARTDECO from Germany. You have it in the UK right?
Natasha: Yeah, I’ve seen it one time or another.
Phoebe: You should check it out! They’ve got quite an impressive color selection too.
Natasha: Really? Okay will do!
Phoebe: One more…sorry, I can’t help but notice your lip color. It looks familiar but I can’t nail it (was thinking MAC Cosmo).
Natasha: Oh wait, I don’t quite remember but I have it in my bag.
(Interupted by a photo op…)
Natasha: Oh here it is. I got it from a spa in New Zealand.
Phoebe: That’s pretty! (okay I forgot to take note of the brand and color but it’s tad darker and creamier than MAC Cosmo)
I said a few more things that was able to score me the opportunity to take photos of her makeup stash last night. Whatever those things are, it’s just between me and her (to save my pride hahaha):

This is the Ruby and Millie palette she used last night. Very pigmented! She used the platinum, lime, and emerald e/s:

We had a quick photo op with them and wrapped up. I was in the washroom when she walked in.
Phoebe: Last minute checks?
Natasha: Yeah, just making sure everything’s in place.
…
Natasha: Oh the brand you’re saying earlier, ARTDECO, do they have dark foundation shades?
Phoebe: Yeah, I believe so, we have a few colors here in Manila that’s suitable for gals with darker skin tones. (I swear ARTDECO should make me their brand ambassador soon
)
Natasha: Do you use it?
Phoebe: Yeah, I have it on right now.
Natasha: But you have such fantastic skin!
Phoebe: (prevents herself from dying in the comfort room of World Trade Center): Oh thankssss
There you have it! I think my interview wins the most unconventional Chicane interview ever.
Here’s a quick photo of me and my new makeup friend (naks) Natasha:

I ate my MAC Cult of Cherry lipglass during the interview!
Thanks for the photo Jayvee (check his Chicane entry for some more deets and photos!)

Ruby and Millie. What a nice paletteeee!!!!
During photo op time: “Phoebs, we need you guys for photos… PHOEBE!” Phoebe and Natasha were checking out makeup. What a LOL moment. Then Phoebe wins the entire press interview round! tee hee
ultra cool!!!!
Can’t help it, you have a beautiful skin & an equally beautiful smile.
@Sophie
The Ruby and Millie palette I had a couple of years back was quite a performer, actually. Too bad it’s more of a silver-blue quad which am not a fan of, I had to give it away.
@Fritz
That photo op moment’s a classic! Will definitely go down the books!
Sorry for keeping you waiting guys (I can’t believe I actually had to make CHICANE wait LOL)! The makeup geek had to work it.
@venice
