Did I ever tell you how problematic and weird my skin is? Oh I did! I used to break out so bad that really, some folks from my high school don’t recognize me today (read: with clear complexion). When I hit sophomore year, I started breaking out so bad that I’d be in my dermatologist’s clinic every two weeks. It’s definitely a painful, expensive (medical facials start at Php 1000 and post-treatment kits start at Php 2000 back in 1998), and humiliating phase in my life. During which, my dermatologist would always tell me that I should try getting a peel because really, when I’m tan free, am too fair. Too fair that every single spot is visible to the naked eye. I’ve always been interested in trying it but my fear would always be superior over my curiosity. I mean breaking out is hard to deal with as it is and getting browned and burned would be equal if not gravely heartbreaking.
Ten years after that really ugly phase in my life (and countless paper spent on derma prods and treatments), am sort of enjoying the fruits of my labor.
I do every single thing that my derma says and I now rarely go out with makeup on. It’s beyond words wonderful to actually go out with just mascara and gloss. Preping up for a dinner with the girls (also my good friends from high school) is worked on with just mineral loose powder, blush (NARS Mata Hari), eyeliner (MAC Powerpoint in Bountiful Brown), and lip balm (Softlips Vanilla):

Me and my girlfriends post dinner last Friday

Again, again: loose powder, blush, eyeliner, lip balm, and hair pin

To zoom or not to zoom? To zoom of course!
So anyhoo, going back to peeling (this is the kind of entry you’ll read when our house runs out of brewed coffee LOL), I thought that hey, since am done dealing with the breakouts, I might as well conquer my fear of peels right? Cause anyway, it’s been ten years since the era of those horrible and strong (usually TCA) peels. “Lunchtime peels” are quite popular and rated safe nowadays and I thought it’s also about time to shed off a thin layer of my skin that’s almost 25 years old.
How my day went yesterday:

Me absolutely tan-free while drying my hair and sunblock
It’s rare for me and twin to actually step out of the house together so we took the opportunity to actually camwhore!
He’s actually a full foot taller than me. I had to tiptoe to death to get to at least this height (still small!):

High and crazy early in the morning, this is how a photo of me turned out with both of us laughing our hearts out:

FRAME MEEEEEEE!
Crazy crazy I tell you! Behaving really well for both of us seems like forever!

My 6th birthday. Twin obviously can’t wait for the cake to be cut!
Lunchtime-ish, I arrived in Ageless Medical Spa (4F Festival Mall, Muntinlupa City). I got a Purifying Facial (Php520, facial cleaning with massage, brushes, vaporzone, vacuum, and high frequency laser) and three (yes you read that right!) peels. As it is in my dermatologist’s clinic, a therapist performs the facial and the dermatologist performs the pricking and peel. Ladies for your protection, please, please, please never ever go to a facial joint where the peels are performed by therapists. Even if they are said to be trained, they are not authorized to perform pricking (esp. on acne) and peels.

Post facial, Dr. Socouer Oblepias first performed a sensitivity test on me. She applied toner and she told me that if I get red, we won’t proceed. Luckily, my very sensitive skin cooperated and didn’t get red. The first peel performed on me is the PCA Sensi Peel® Exfoliating Treatment. It’s a TCA peel that’s suitable to be for patients with extremely sensitive skin. It’s smoothing, strengthening, and hydrating at the same time and promises virtually no irritation. I didn’t react to this peel so Dr. Oblepias performed another layer of PCA Sensi Peel® Exfoliating Treatment. Same reaction…nothing. She went up one more level and performed a PCA Esthetique Peel™ Exfoliating Treatment. It’s a keratolytic and antioxidant peel that brightens and rejuvenates the skin. She said that the salicylic acid breaks down and loosens the dead surface while the Vitamin A and C content protects the skin from environmental damage and nourishes it at the same time. It’s a collagen matrix treatment too that in turn supports healthy and younger-looking skin (this won me over).
So post facial and 3 peels, this is how I looked like:

Slightly tanned! WOOT!
The tan effect is of course very temporary. As I type this almost 24 hours after my peels, my skin tone’s back to the photo above and the touch feel is butt baby soft. I can’t say am a convert as early as now but if this micro peels my skin as promised and actually delivers amazing touch-feel for me then expect me to rave and rave about it both online and off line.

/me sings, “What a peeling!”
Oh I didn’t know that you have a twin! ;P
I always go to Festival Mall and always see this Ageless Medical Spa but I never got the chance to rad a review from this med clinic.
After reading your review, I think I’ll start going there.
Thanks Phoebe!
@Sophie
@dyanie
You’re welcome
Phoebe! A few days ago, I asked Jayvee to ask you to recommend a good dermatologist. (I’ve been breaking out like mad, bah.) He gave me your number but I told him, “ikaw na laaaang, nahihiya akoooo!” Hehe. And then you have this entry! Yay sakto!
So uhm, do you still go to Caraderme? Medyo malayo ang Festival Mall eh.
we all “peel” glowing ddnt we?
@Anne
Bakit muna wala ka nung Saburday??? You missed the “clubbing practice slash sorority parteh”
I haven’t seen Dr. Rose Gatmaytan (Caraderme) for 2-3 years since my severe acne condition’s calmed down (THANK HEAVENS). I should warn you though that she’s got quite a heavy hand but 101% guaranteed no post treatment scars. Me, my mom, and my aunts go to her.
I think I’ll see her soon since anyhoo, I don’t require pricking and she’s a good anti-ageing dermatologist too. Heck she’s popular for good boob and ass jobs as well!
So let’s go sabay? The treatment…not the boob job!
@Bambi
